Ignition and Baking! Sample Project of the Belt and Road Initiative of WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd.

At 16:06 on August 8th(local time), the new 3# walking beam reheating furnace for 2250mm hot rolling of HBIS Group Serbia Iron & Steel DOO Belgrade in Serbia was successfully ignited and baked, and embraced the hot test stage. As an important part of the hot rolling production line of HBIS Group Serbia Iron & Steel DOO Belgrade, the 3# reheating furnace is designed and built by WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. in the EPC mode.

"The First One" in Serbia

By virtue of the successful ignition and baking, WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. has exported several intelligent and green furnace technologies to the European market. This project has set a few records in the iron and steel market of Serbia.

It is the first regenerative reheating furnace in Serbia. The previous reheating furnaces of HBIS Group Serbia Iron & Steel DOO Belgrade have been heated by natural gas combustion, and the utilization rate of thermal resources needs to be improved. In the new reheating furnace project, WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. applies the advanced air-gas dual regenerative combustion technology to realize the effective utilization of BF gas in the steel rolling reheating furnace.

It is the first ultra-low emission reheating furnace in Serbia. During the upgrading of HBIS Group Serbia Iron & Steel DOO Belgrade, WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. has continuously adhered to the concept of "green circular economy". The exhaust gas back blowing technology is adopted to recover the gas in the exhaust gas as much as possible, solving the problem of gas escape between reversing valves caused by dual regenerative combustion, greatly reducing CO emission, resulting in a CO emission reduction of more than 8,000 tons per year. In addition, the project uses the ultra-low NOx emission technology independently developed by WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. to reduce air pollution and help build a "leading energy-saving and green modern factory in Europe".

It is the first intelligent reheating furnace in Serbia. It is equipped with the WISave intelligent reheating furnace system independently developed by WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. to realize the intelligent production by the reheating furnace through the real-time intelligent control of billet temperature, oxidation and decarbonization.

Adhering to the "Spirit of Contract"

During the more than 500 days in cold and heat, from the date when they arrived at the overseas project site to the date when the furnace was successfully ignited, the team members of WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. for the reheating furnace project of HBIS Group Serbia Iron &Steel DOO Belgrade have been working on the front line. They overcame their homesickness, fought against the COVID-19, stuck to their posts, rose above challenges, and delivered a project with high quality.

During construction, the timely delivery of equipment and on-site technical services were greatly challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic and local complex situation. To ensure in-time equipment installation and commissioning, the Project Team quickly took proper pandemic prevention and control measures, and meanwhile, communicated with manufacturers to mobilize their overseas technical resources to guarantee the on-site technical services. In the commissioning stage, the Project Team leveraged online guidance and offline commissioning to ensure smooth baking preparation.



Sample Project for Jointly Promoting the Belt and Road Initiative

The large-scale industrial documentary of CCTV2, "the Steel Backbone", once featured the story about HBIS Group Serbia Iron & Steel DOO Belgrade. The original film pointed out: "China’s advanced technology was introduced for the Project, and parties involved in the Project actively shared management experience, making the concept of the Community of Shared Future for Mankind got the most vivid presentation in this steel plant. The reheating furnace project of HBIS Group Serbia Iron & Steel DOO Belgrade is also known as a sample project for the Belt and Road Initiative and the cooperation between China and Central & Eastern Europe."

While exporting technical solutions overseas, the project team of WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. is committed to improving the knowledge level of local employees in Serbia. Since a lot of professional knowledge is still needed to support the operation and maintenance of the reheating furnace in the later stage, the project team members of WISDRI (Wuhan) Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. developed a number of thick operation manuals in both Chinese and English on the basis of decades of technology accumulation of the company. After several rounds of searching for Serbian interpreters, the project team has carried out several rounds of face-to-face training.

China-Serbia cooperation is not only about technical exchanges, but also about cultural integration. The project team members from China and Serbia have established a profound friendship. At the beginning of 2022,they celebrated the New Year and the Spring Festival together, shared their festival customs, tasted the traditional food of the two countries, and discussed their homesickness with each other, thus sublimating the friendship between them.
